Greek historian Michael Critobulus (1410-1470), in "History of Mehmed the Conqueror," refers to Albanians as Illyrians, descendants of the Taulantians and Chaones. Charles T. Riggs' translation connects this to Albanians, as Critobulus was describing Mehmed II's expedition against Skanderbeg. This shows that the Illyrian origin of Albanians was clear in the 1400s, much earlier than Johann Thunmann.
